FAQs

  • What exactly is EMDR Therapy?

EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) is a structured, eight-phase therapy that uses gentle bilateral stimulation (eye movements, taps, or tones) to help the brain reprocess stuck memories and reduce distress.

  • How does EMDR Therapy work?

EMDR uses a structured eight-phase process where you briefly focus on a troubling memory while following gentle left-right eye movements (or taps/tones). This bilateral stimulation helps your brain “re-file” the experience—much like overnight memory processing—so the emotional charge drops and healthier beliefs take its place.

  • How long does it take?

Most clients notice positive changes in 8–16 weekly sessions, though every person is unique. EMDR is considered intensive, with sessions taking place at least once a week, sometimes twice a week.

  • What do you mean by EMDR Only?

A focused series of EMDR sessions dedicated solely to reprocessing what keeps you stuck, so you can see clear progress and real change without the extra layers of weekly talk therapy. If you’d like ongoing talk therapy as well, we’ll pair you with another therapist who can provide that support alongside your EMDR work.

  • Do I have to describe my trauma in detail?

No—unlike traditional talk therapy, EMDR focuses on what you notice internally; you share only what feels comfortable.

  • Can I do EMDR while seeing another therapist or taking medication?

Yes; EMDR can stand alone or complement ongoing therapy and prescribed meds. We’ll coordinate care as needed.

  • What happens during a consultation call?

Consultation calls are free, 15 minute video chats that can allow us to get to know each other and see if we are a good fit. It’s important to me that you receive the best care possible. If I am not the best fit for you, I will give you referrals for people who may be better able to support you.

  • What are your rates?

I charge $150 for a standard 53 minute individual session. Sliding scale spots are available on a limited basis. Please feel free to ask about my sliding scale availability.

  • Do you take my insurance?

I am able to accept Premera, LifeWise, Aetna, Regence, First Choice, and Quest Behavioral Health. I am also able to bill Out of Network. Understanding insurance can be confusing, so I’ve got you covered. Please see the Insurance 101 page to learn more about insurance and Out of Network.

  • Where are services offered?

I can see clients online and in person in my Bellingham office, or in person for Walk-and-Talk therapy. I am licensed in Washington state, meaning I can see clients located anywhere in WA via Telehealth.

  • What is your education/license?

I attained my Master of Arts in Counseling Psychology from Bastyr University in Kenmore, Washington.
